Training gurus launch new Webinars Pocketbook to transform online learning

A pair of training gurus have joined forces to revolutionise “traditional dull” webinars by launching a new interactive resource to encourage online learning.

Stella Collins, Creative Director of Stellar Learning, and Andy Lancaster, Head of Learning and Development at CIPD, wrote the pocketbook to highlight how people can enjoy the same level of engagement as face-to-face training.

Lancaster hopes the Webinars Pocketbook would be a perfect tool for busy trainers, “We have to recognise that learning is becoming far more global and the old method of using L&D are no longer working anymore. This online learning allows us to reach people all over the world and get to a place where we can provide technology-based learning to everybody.

“The main focus is now is finding a really appropriate way for customised learners to choose, people are finding their own content, and accessing it themselves, so one doesn’t fit all anymore. It’s about curating now and finding resources and pointing people to where they are,” added Lancaster.

While webinars are increasingly used in training due to their low cost and global accessibility – GoToWebinar sees 2 million attendees a week – attendance is historically low, with the industry standard considered to be around 40 per cent.

Collins who has worked in the L&D industry for more than 12 years and is a Fellow of the Institute of Training and Occupational Learning said: “There is no excuse for webinars to be dull, one-dimensional presentations – they simply won’t secure the necessary attendance from delegates. With this book, we want to highlight webinars can enjoy the same level of engagement as face-to-face training.”
