A suite of innovative professional development resources for colleges, training providers and local authority adult learning services involved in delivering apprenticeships is being launched today at a dissemination conference in Birmingham.
The resources include guides, tool-kits, staff training materials and videos, and have all been designed to support staff involved in current apprenticeship delivery, as well as to prepare to deliver apprenticeships in the new landscape. All materials were produced by 14 provider-led projects funded through the first phase of the Apprenticeship Staff Support Programme (ASSP). They are all available on the ASSP website: www.apprenticeship-staff-support.co.uk
The resources will support provider staff to:
- Secure and further develop employer involvement in apprenticeship delivery
- Further improve curriculum development, and teaching, learning and assessment on apprenticeship programmes
Paul Warner, director of employment and skills at AELP, said: “In the context of a recovering economy, high youth unemployment and a general election round the corner, all political parties have made significant commitment to the apprenticeship programme as the flagship route to gain skills and sustained employment. The current apprenticeship programme is highly successful and will continue to adapt in meeting the Government’s drive to ‘put employers in the driving seat’.
“For apprenticeships to continue to be a success and be adaptable in meeting the needs of learners and employers, it is important that practitioner support and resources are in place to help continually improve the quality of delivery. We’re confident that the high quality tools and materials we are launching today will have a significant impact in meeting this need.”
Jenny Williams, director of vocational education and training at The Education and Training Foundation said: “During a period of significant reform to apprenticeships, our aim is to support professionals involved in delivering apprenticeships to focus on further improving the quality and impact of vocational teaching and learning.
“We hope that the resources produced through ASSP will support staff across the sector to strengthen employer involvement in the apprenticeship programme helping to develop the talented individuals we need as a country to compete at the highest level.”
