A change is as good as a rest, they say, so we’re feeling very rested here at TJ following a fairly major change to our online presence.
As I’m sure a lot of you have already noticed, the TJ website has undergone an overhaul and redesign since the last edition of the magazine, incorporating a lot of new features that we hope you will find useful and that will make TJ an even better resource for you. All your old favourites are still there – from the forum to our regular bloggers – but they are bigger, better and easier to find, read and share.
A lot of the improvements to the site are designed to make it easier for you to find the information you want. The search function has been improved, for example, and the content has been categorised in a much more in-depth way and by subject matter. So if you are looking for articles about, for instance, engagement, there is now a tab called engagement in the toolbar at the top of the home page.
Once you have found the content you are looking for, it’s now a lot easier to share it with friends and colleagues via our updated share buttons and to comment on it on social media. It is also easier now to read our content – much more of which is now freely available – on the go as the website has been designed for mobile access.
Other improvements include embedding video and audio clips within the body of articles and the ability to read related relevant content from other parts of our parent company. One way we will be using the video facility on our site is to host short films about the shortlisted candidates for the 2014 TJ Awards in the autumn.
The forum has been refreshed and now has a new section for requests for recommendations, which we hope will go some way towards solving the problem of perceived self-promotion that has been a frequent cause for complaint by forum members in the past.
We will continue to bring you news, comment and features about all aspects of learning and development, from practical hints-and-tips articles written by your fellow professionals to news about the latest government skills policies, and we hope that you will enjoy visiting and using our new site.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Peter Honey for his considerable contribution to TJ over the years. The co-inventor of the Honey and Mumford Learning Styles Questionnaire has been a regular contributor to the magazine, and subsequently the website, for a considerable number of years, but has now decided to call it a day. His articles have always been a delight – warm, quirky, personal and containing pearls of wisdom about L&D that demonstrate just why he’s such a towering figure within the profession.
So, thank you again, Peter, for all your wise and funny words. We’ll miss you!
