There is much talk of stress these days. Phrases and words like ‘stressed out’, and ‘destress’ are everywhere. Richard Carlson goes as far as to describe stress as “a socially acceptable form of mental illness”. The almost universal view is that stress is a bad thing, something to be avoided. But, while prolonged exposure to it is certainly bad for the mind and ultimately damaging to your immune system, some stress is not only inevitable, but probably desirable.
