Is coaching going out of fashion? The 2007 CIPD annual survey of trends in L&D is packed with interesting information, but the statistic which caught my eye is the decline in the number of organisations which say they are involved in coaching activity. This has dropped by 16 per cent, from 79 per cent in 2006 to 63 per cent in 2007. Taken at face value, this seems surprising: much of the talk I hear is of creating cultures in which coaching is very much encouraged.
