We live in a society whose smooth running is dependent on a legislative framework that is becoming more and more extensive. In order to be effective, this legislation must carry the threat that action will be taken in the event of non-compliance.
With the increasing scope, breadth and depth of regulation, the professionals who investigate regulatory breaches must be able to bring appropriate proceedings against those who flout the law. The investigator must obtain (in an objective and sensitive manner), facts and evidence that may be ferociously challenged in any subsequent legal proceedings. The investigator must have the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to obtain these facts and evidence and marshal them into a coherent, powerfully argued and watertight case.
