At the end of this month, Britain will have a new prime minister. If God stays on message over the next few weeks, Gordon Brown will assume the mantle from Tony Blair and continue along the Third Way.
Between them, Blair and Brown claim to have presided over a decade of economic growth and prosperity. Yet, when you read the fine print, it becomes apparent that UK plc’s situation isn’t quite as rosy as they want us to believe; Lord Leitch has spelled out in no uncertain terms that we are falling further and further behind our competitors in terms of skills and how fast we need to run just to keep standing still.
