The UK’s skills gap continues to be a key issue for companies of all shapes and sizes. If we take the IT department as an example, the latest round of e-Skills research (published in the UK in January of this year) demonstrated that 11 per cent of firms believe their IT staff lack the required skills to do their job properly.
However, perhaps companies should be glad that the skills of their IT support staff are being measured at all. In the sales arena, no such benchmark currently exists. This is despite the fact that Silent Edge research – much of it conducted in conjunction with leading business schools in the UK such as the Cranfield School of Management – suggests that the skills gap in the world of sales is every bit as problematic as in other areas of business.
