What exactly is it about people that is going to make the difference to organisational success? It is three things: the first is the number of people available; given a particular set of machines and/or systems, how many people are required to deliver the required outcome? The second is their capability: what is the level of knowledge, skill and experience needed to be effective? But these two alone are not enough. The third is their motivation: we can have enough capable people on paper but, if they lack the motivation to achieve what we are aiming for, we are in trouble.
