The power of mentoring comes from the quality of the dialogue between mentor and mentee. So, when e-mentoring was first introduced, it was met with scepticism. How could it possibly work as effectively as a face-to-face situation in which the mentor could observe the mentee’s body language and pick up nuances in their voice? There was considerable concern, with many people doubting that e-mentoring could duplicate the quality of real mentoring.
