We’re becoming a world of individual thinkers and doers. These days, we are likely to bypass package holidays, and to opt instead to customise our own trip, and to secure keen prices into the bargain. In business (IT and finance especially), individuals resign from direct employment and return to the same role as self-employed contractors – with a marked increase in remuneration. Companies embrace such things as outsourcing, short-term contracts and interim management. Individuals increasingly know clearly what they want and how best to progress towards it. They apply focused rather than selfish criteria, with a positive awareness of personal key competencies. Team outcomes combine these individual successes in a synergy that exceeds the sum of individual capabilities.
