Have you noticed how many people in organisations seem to go through some strange sort of metamorphosis when they walk through the office door? It’s almost as if modern organisational life drives us to shut down much of our own humanity in order to survive. It seems to demand that we treat other people as though they were something less than human, too: as just wheels in a machine. Take a moment to look at how people treat each other in your own organisation; do you use words like warmth? Generosity of spirit? Energy? Respect? Understanding? Collaboration? Shared purpose? Or how about aggression? Politics? Backstabbing? Gossip? Mistrust? Resentment?
