Support, encouragement and hard work. These were the words used to describe both the background to her own achievement and as requirements for success as an apprentice by Diane Louise Jordan, the inspirational host of the East Midlands Apprenticeship Awards dinner that I attended this month.
Best remembered for her role as the presenter of the BBC TV programmes Blue Peter and Songs of Praise, Jordan guided the audience of apprentices, employers and training providers through stories of odds overcome, the mentoring of young people by shop floor supervisors and the dedication to work-based training and development by companies and organisations of all sizes.
