This month, TJ focuses on talent management and there is much mention of the traits of Generation Y; children of the Baby Boomers, they’ve been cosseted and nurtured in times of plenty and their outlook on life and work is firmly centred on Number One and their mantra of ‘I want it now’.

But what of the future and how will the young workers of 2020 behave?

Charles Woodruffe, whose article on Generation Y is on p31, has also taken a look at the next generation – the Zs, sometimes referred to as ‘Millenials’ – and they are quite a different breed. While Gen Y is often termed ‘whiney’, the Zs are often called the ‘silent generation’ because, as digital natives, they communicate mostly online.
