The following article aims to offer some insight into the practical applications of the Reuven Bar-On EQI tool, with a ‘real life’ example of how it can be useful for an individual’s on-going
development.

There is increasing evidence of the benefit of the EQI. When used in association with a coaching programme, it furthers the level of personal awareness for the individual, providing him with a
new lens or structure with which to assess his and others’ ways of operating in the world.

Ultimately, the aim for the application of a tool like EQI is building the coachee’s level of self-awareness, enabling him to improve his social, emotional and organisational effectiveness.
