http://www.trainerbase.co.uk/

TrainerBase, the brainchild of Peter Mayes, has been a member-focused and growing organisation/website for a number of years now. It advertises itself as a database-driven directory that seeks to connect training providers with potential customers, and it does fulfil this function.

But it goes beyond this and seems almost to have become an internet gathering point for trainers and consultants with needs that are more pragmatic and business-driven than the CIPD currently provides for. It is also on the verge of becoming a trade association with a much wider remit. This is certainly a website that trainers should be aware of.

In order to access the entire content of this web site, you will need to register. This doesn’t cost anything, as it is only the higher levels of membership that require some financial remuneration. Once registered, you can proceed; down the left-hand side of the page you will see a number of links, some of which I would like to explore here.

Downloads has an impressively large range of training-related support materials that you can download for use on your own programmes. You will, however, be asked to rate and assess the downloaded items in return.

Opportunities contains details of tenders and business opportunities that trainers might seek to apply for.

Discuss is essentially a small range of discussion forums covering a number of items from NLP through to regional groups.

Standards is an interesting development, with a range of ‘competencies’ in development against which a professional training qualification scheme is being developed. I am not certain about this because of the plethora of qualifications that already exist, or about the validity of the process being proposed.

My job sees me travelling around the UK a lot, and the arrival of affordable GPS systems has definitely made my job easier and safer; I no longer have to carry a map on my knee or try to decipher a badly faxed map. I also always remember that the GPS is the co-pilot, not the pilot. Anyone using or thinking of investing in any of this technology would be best advised to visit Pocket GPS World. Just about every aspect of GPS gets reviewed and discussed here and if you have questions around this topic, you’re sure to find the answers here.

If you’re looking for a funny picture or a silly piece of video to play as an introduction, summary or icebreaker, Funny Hub is a good starting point, with a very simple layout and an adequate search engine. You may well find what you’re looking for with just one trip rather than having to search the entire Internet.
