The human brain operates in two distinct ways. The left hemisphere is more verbal and logical, analyses the details and then draws conclusions about the whole situation. The right hemisphere is more visual and intuitive, takes on general impressions and leaves the details till later.

Ned Herrmann1 uses the specialisation of the brain as a metaphor to describe four different ‘thinking selves’: two right-mode styles, visualiser and personaliser; and two left-mode styles, analyser and organiser. There isn’t a rigid division but managers, accountants and analysts are predominately L-mode thinkers, while actors and designers are more R-mode.
