The last half a century has seen a multitude of changes affecting the way we work and live. The expansion of the European Union, creating overnight job opportunities from Lisbon to Riga, combined with increased levels of migration, has created a new multicultural Europe. Once economically dormant, countries such as India, China and Russia are now true giants that have taken their place on the economic stage. The world is truly getting smaller, in large part, due to advances in information technology that have played a critical role in facilitating the global expansion of organisations.

However, despite all the advances in technology, combined with the opening-up of new markets and unprecedented levels of migration, governments and organisations alike have not spent sufficient time in learning how to harness the opportunities that this new multicultural working and social environment presents. Without taking the time to fully understand how to manage the integration of employees from different cultures, companies risk losing the opportunity to create the international dream team.
