“Hundreds of women every week” are joining an initiative to help them improve their career prospects in male-dominated workplaces.
The scheme has proved so successful since its launch last year that organisers expect it to exceed its targets by more than 10 per cent.
The Women and Work Sector Pathways Initiative (WWSPI) aims to give women the skills and the confidence to progress out of low-skill, low-pay roles within industry sectors that are traditionally seen as ‘men’s jobs’.
The government-funded initiative is due to end next March and has been so successful that the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA) predicts it will exceed its initial target of 7,000 women receiving training by 1,000.
