Learning and Development News - Redtray is UK's fifth-fastest-growing tech company

Blended learning provider Redtray is the UK’s fifth-fastest-growing private technology company, according to the Sunday Times.

Acquiring two firms last year helped Redtray’s sales rocket by 253 per cent a year, from £0.4m in 2003 to £4.5m in 2005.

And that growth enabled the company to secure fifth place in this year’s Tech Track 100 league table, which ranks Britain’s fastest-growing private tech companies based on their 2003-2005 sales growth.

Founded by Bob Woodland (pictured), Fardad Gharebaghi and Sharon Ferrari, Redtray develops bespoke e-learning software and traditional-style training courses for customers including ITV, Orange and the law firm Clifford Chance.
Last year it bought the training division of CSC Computer Sciences and e-learning provider BlueU.

Woodland, Redtray’s CEO, told TJ: ‘I was quite surprised when the Sunday Times got in touch to say we were on the list, and very pleased as well. We don’t aim to get into these lists – we just try to make sure that Redtray makes the progress we want it to make – but, if we do, it’s an added bonus!

‘This has brought us to the attention of people who didn’t know we existed before. It’s a boost to our credibility.’
• Redtray has merged with e-learning provider Bourne Training.
Redtray CEO Bob Woodland, who refused to reveal how much the deal cost, said: ‘Bourne is a highly professional company with a long and successful trading history. Through this merger, we gain an experienced team with valuable knowledge, project-management skills, and educational design capabilities.

‘We were looking to grow our e-learning business to get the critical mass up. We talked to a number of companies; Bourne came out as a strong company with good management, good people and good customers.

‘Bourne will be a fantastic part of the Redtray business.’

Bourne Training md Mike Ditchburn said: ‘We are delighted with the agreement with Redtray. Its pre-eminent blended learning capabilities will enable us to offer our clients a far wider range of training services and shorter development timescales.
‘We look forward to becoming part of one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies in the sector.’

Bourne Training will continue to trade independently under the Bourne brand for ‘the foreseeable future’.
