Unionlearn teamed up with Fujitsu and Unite (Amicus section) to sign an agreement, which will promote a culture of learning and development for all full- and part-time employees at Fujitu's Manchester premises.
The agreement aims to encourage all employees to become involved in lifelong earning and Skills for Life and ensure that access to such opportunities is always available.
Under the agreement, workplace learning facilities will be reviewed and the possibility of a workplace learning centre will be considered.
Fujitsu has given a firm commitment to work with unionlearn and union learning representatives (ULRs) in the workplace to ensure that the agreement is a success. Employees will have access to PCs, online training courses and educational material and will have a Personal Development Plan drawn up to outline their learning goals.
A Learning Partnership Committee is to be formed of union and company personnel to introduce and monitor learning initiatives. It will feature one senior Fujitsu management figure but will also include representatives from all levels within the workplace.
This committee will identify the learning needs of the workforce and the company, encourage employees to develop skills, prioritise learning needs and identify groups and individuals who will benefit most from the various learning initiatives available.
The committee, which will meet quarterly, will produce a learning plan, which will set targets for the provision of learning. It will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with outside education and training providers.
Tony Saunders, unionlearn’s Regional Union Development Co-ordinator, was present for the signing.
He said: “It is really pleasing to see how the employer and the union are working together and using learning to help cement better industrial relations.
“The successful Learning at Work Day and the recent signing of the joint learning agreement should both help ensure that this project continues to flourish.’’
