The National School of Government, which supports best practice for training and development and links individual staff development to its business objectives, has been accredited as an Investor in People until 2010.
The Investors in People (IiP) standard provides a framework for organisations to identify and achieve appropriate business improvements. The National School inspection report confirmed that inspectors were “impressed” with what had been achieved, and that recent changes represented a “significant improvement”.
National School Principal and Chief Executive David Spencer commented: “I am delighted that we have been accredited in this way just a few months after becoming a Non-Ministerial Government Department, given the many changes that has entailed.”
He continued: “It is essential across government that training and development activities meet business objectives and provide value-for-money to the tax payer. IiP accreditation underlines our commitment to achieving these things. National School training programmes meet exacting standards, and we work closely with government organisations to match development to business needs and then assess its impact.”
Although the National School has been accredited for the first time, its predecessor organisations also met the standard. The Civil Service College was first accredited in 1996, and re-accredited in 1999, 2000 and 2005 as CMPS in the Cabinet Office.
