Learning and Development News - New website to help employers tackle discrimination law

A new website aimed at taking the stress out of complying with the UK’s myriad of complex discrimination laws  has been launched for businesses across the UK. It offers tailored information for both employers and employees who want to know more about discrimination law in the workplace.

The new website from law firm Brabners Chaffe Street can be found at www.discriminationonline.com

In 2006 around 23,000 discrimination claims were brought in the UK, and the cost of claims rose by 52 per cent to £320 million. In addition, new legislation on age discrimination was introduced in October 2006, and it is estimated that the total cost of claims will rise even higher in 2007.

Although awards for discrimination are uncapped, and can therefore be large, it is not just the amount of the claim that causes headaches for employers.  Large amounts of management time can be consumed as the claim progresses, and there is damage to reputation to consider as well.

As well as information and guidance, the website includes a regularly updated blog from the discrimination team at Brabners Chaffe Street , and there is a downloadable podcast.
