Learning and Development News - Britain to host WorldSkills 2011

WorldSkills is a biennial event.  Britain has been successful in winning the right to hold the competition in London in 2011.

During the competition, competitors compete against the clock.  Visitors are able to watch as competitors overcome difficulties commonly experienced in the workplace.

Skills showcased by past competitors include cabinet making, cookery, bricklaying, joinery and autobody repair.

Taking part in WorldSkills promotes a desire for excellence and by providing motivation to take part in vocational education, goes some way towards reducing skills gaps, especially in the more traditional skills. By demonstrating their skills, it is hoped that competitors will act as a role model for other young people, showing them just what it takes to develop skills and their full potential.
