Learning and Development News - The Commission for Equality and Human Rights has publishes Equalities Review

The Commission for Equality and Human Rights has published its Equalities Review, entitled 'Fairness and Freedom: The Final Report of the Equalities Review'.  It was prepared by a panel headed by Trevor Phillips, and supported by Sir Robert Kerlake and Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas.  The Review, which has taken two years to complete, was undertaken in order to establish the causes of persistent discrimination and inequality in British society.

The review, which sets out the case for equality goes on to identify persistent inequalities in early years and education, employment, health, and in crime and the criminal justice system.  It looks at why those enequalities persist and offers a ten-step guide to greater equality.

The full report can be found at http://www.theequalitiesreview.org.uk/upload/assets/www.theequalitiesreview.org.uk/equality_review.pdf

The CIPD, commenting, welcomed the findings of the report which acknowledges that there are limits to what can be achieved through regulation.  The CIPD's own recent survey on diversity indicated that what really makes a difference is the apreciation of the business case and how managing diversity can add value to business performance.
