EDF Energy, which employs more than 20,000 workers and delivers gas and electricity to around 5m people in the UK, says people development is at the heart of its business.
Speaking at the 23rd Workworld Media Awards, which honour business and management journalism, EDF Energy CEO Vincent de Rivaz said his organisation had expanded its apprenticeship programme and increased its graduate intake in recent years.
“We have overseen the development of skills within our organisation and as a result we have seen the growth of our apprenticeship programme, the instigation of training partnerships with the Royal Navy and a doubling of our graduate intake,” he said.
EDF, which was sponsoring the event, is currently developing green technologies and has a £2m tidal power project underway, which aims to test the viability of harnessing tidal currents to generate electricity.
