Learning and Development News - Free diversity event marks launch of community cohesion institute

Learning and development practitioners interested in finding out more about community cohesion can attend a free event to mark the opening of a Learning and Development Unit (LDU) within the Institute of Community Cohesion (iCoCo).

The iCoCo LDU, which as part of the iCoCo aims to build awareness of the impact of increasing diversity on local communities, will provide training in all aspects of diversity through master classes, seminars, conferences and awareness courses.

Leanne de Main, from the LDU, said: “This is an ideal opportunity to learn more about community cohesion in relation to your workforce both in the public and private sector.

"We recognise that different organisations have different development needs and based on our experience, we can agree the best approach and deliver the required training and support. Our training packages are tailored to meet the needs of the individuals and organisations.

“This event also presents a wonderful opportunity to network with fellow professionals and take part in discussion groups and trial training sessions.”

Among those speaking at the launch of the facility in Coventry will be Professor Ted Cantle, the executive chairman of iCoCo, who was appointed by the government to chair the Community Cohesion Review Team in 2001. His findings led to 70 recommendations being made to the government and his concept of community cohesion was subsequently adopted by the Labour administration.

For more information on the event, which will be held on Wednesday 24th February, contact de Main by Friday 29 January on 024 7679 5757 or via email at icocoldu@coventry.ac.uk
