The British Institute for Learning and Development (BILD) has coordinated a strong UK presence at the Berlin Online Educa (OLE) international e-learning event.
It has taken five organisations, each benefiting from a £1000 government grant, to the German capital and grouped them together in a British themed ‘UK pavilion’ area of the OLE exhibition hall - resplendent with red, white and blue Union Jack colour scheme.
The grants, which cover around a third of an exhibitor’s costs, were made available by UK Trade and Investment, which is a government organisation established to promote global competitiveness.
And BILD says that the even though many UK e-learning organisation’s core clients are based domestically, the products they sell are used internationally.
Robert Craig an account manager at e-learning company eCom Scotland, which is one of the companies in the BILD delegation, said: “We are quite picky about where we go but we have come here because many of our clients deliver outside of the UK.
“Even on the first day it has been quite busy, the fact that it is relatively expensive to come to an international event means that it weeds out many of the serial conference goers who may not have any purchasing power.”
The figures from the event paint a truly international picture. Around 2,000 delegates from more than 90 countries will arrive at Online Educa over the next two days where exhibitors from 20 countries and a range of international speakers will gather.
For UK organisations traveling to the event with BILD ensures them a number of extra opportunities for exposure.
Among them is a Best of British chips and beer event being held at the ‘UK pavilion’ on Thursday.
While delegates eat and drink Britain’s finest culinary exports BILD will be promoting British firms and its own part in the development of a new user focused Personal Learning Environment (PLE) called ROLE.
BILD says the ROLE PLE differs significantly from current offerings by allowing learners to easily construct and maintain their environment, as well as having the ability to ‘mash-up’ a mix of their preferred learning tools, services and resources.
