Learning and Development News - New L&D qualifications announced

L&D practitioners are set to benefit from a trio of new qualifications unveiled at the TJ conference on Tuesday.

In a keynote speech closing the day-long event, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development CEO Jackie Orme revealed plans to expand the organisation’s range of qualifications as part of its new HR Profession Map.

The qualifications will include a Level 3 certificate in learning and development, a Level 5 certificate in human resource development and a diploma in human resource development.

Orme said: “I hope the qualifications will provide a great development tool for L&D professionals, both those new to the industry and those who have been in the profession for a while.”

The new modules are part of the CIPD’s drive to create a HR career framework that acknowledges the increasingly blurring lines between organisation development (OD), HR and L&D.

And according to the CIPD, its HR Profession Map will create a clear and flexible structure within which individuals can plan their career progression, while recognising that people development roles and development paths vary.

The map is designed by HR practitioners working globally across public and private sectors in variously sized organisations and looks at the underpinning skills, behaviour and knowledge that L&D and HR practitioners need to be successful.

It is divided into ten professional areas, showing eight behaviours and four levels that employees need to progress in their careers.

The CIPD says the new qualifications are expected to be fully available from the 2011 academic year, but some providers will be able to offer the modules from the beginning of 2010.
