Trainees on Tavcom security systems courses are set to benefit from Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) membership following a mutual agreement made between the two organisations.
A memorandum of understanding was signed this week (15/06/09) by the chief executive of IET, Nigel Fine, and Tavcom managing director, Mike Tennent.
Nigel Fine, IET chief executive, said: “The IET and Tavcom each have similar aims and objectives which support engineers and technicians in their careers. This collaboration is a key part of our strategy to boost standards worldwide and promote professional qualifications, which are vital in today’s increasingly global job market.”
Tavcom delivers training courses to the security and surveillance sectors. Those studying its BTEC Diploma will now automatically become IET members and have access to professional qualifications such as engineering technician and ICT technician.
Tavcom managing director, Mike Tennent, says he firmly believes professional registration with an internationally recognised institution represents the pinnacle of personal achievement for technicians and engineers working in the electronic security systems arena.
“All of us at Tavcom Training are thrilled to be working in collaboration with the IET,” he said. “We can immediately provide our delegates with membership of this highly respected institution and, ultimately, we will be able to offer them the opportunity to apply for EngTech registration [a level of professional registration exclusively for engineering technicians] - as a direct result of following and completing our BTEC Diploma training pathway.”
Tennent said many Tavcom trainees would also now have access to the new ICTTech qualification, which was launched in January, and is currently only awarded by the IET.
The qualification is competence-based, but also assesses those interpersonal and professional skills that are important in career development.
