TJ appoints new principal consultant to its L&D 2020 research project

TJ has appointed Martyn Sloman as the principal consultant to its research project that looks at the future of the L&D industry over the next decade and beyond.

L&D 2020: the future of workplace learning is an ongoing investigative project examining how people learn and the changing capabilities of the professionals that support them.

Sloman will be working alongside TJ's editor Debbie Carter in a bid to raise the profile of the project by developing new material to feed the debate and by producing supporting tools and techniques for L&D specialists eager to keep up with the changing face of their profession.

Carter said: "I'm delighted to have Martyn working on the L&D 2020 project, his practical experience, research ability and knowledge of the industry will give a real boost to the project. I also look forward to reading his column again in 2010 I've missed his insightful comment and dry humour."

Sloman balances his expertise in academic research into learning, training and development with his practical experience as a training manager.

He is currently a visiting professor at Kingston Business School, Kingston University and a teaching fellow in the Department of Management and Organisational Psychology at Birkbeck College, University of London.

He will also be a visiting fellow at the Institute of Adult Learning and Research in Singapore between October and December this year.

Commenting on his new appointment Sloman said: "Today's changing economic and business environment creates an exciting window of opportunity for learning and development. L&D2020 could not have been more timely and I'm delighted to be a part of it. I've always had great respect for TJ and its readers and hope they will be ready to contribute to this important debate on the future of our profession."

Sloman will be resuming his regular monthly column in TJ in the New Year.
