The City of Bristol College has been one of the first UK colleges to receive a new Quality Training Standard from the Learning and Skills Council for its business training courses.
The college gained the accreditation from the LSC for its business and training service, Partners in Business. This is the employer engagement division, which gives the region’s employers access to a range of skills and development training courses on offer at the facility.
The training courses include apprenticeships, NVQs in the workplace, access to Train to Gain funding, government-regulated qualifications and bespoke skills development.
A recent survey by the LSC outlined that there has been a steady increase for employers providing training for staff: 67 per cent in 2007 rising from 59 per cent in 2003.
City of Bristol College principal Keith Elliot said: “The Partners in Business team at the college thoroughly deserve this award for all their hard work and the high standards they’ve achieved for employers and employees.”
The college’s new business development director Mike James added: “The government continues to create a huge noise around the need for employers to take more responsibility for training their staff and in turn helping to minimise the skills gap in the UK.”
The college has a team of specialists who work in partnership with employers. James pointed out that “they have an organisational and training needs analysis service which helps employers pinpoint key areas for training. Our advisors can then suggest and recommend relevant courses to meet these specific business needs”.
