Reporting to a DIUS select committee Lord Leitch reveals that skills shortages still persist.
This accords with the findings of the CIPD’s annual Learning and Development survey found the Leitch skills agenda has been largely ignored by 53 per cent of organisations.
Despite the majority of organisations saying that they will need a broader range of skills and 44 per cent saying they will need a higher level of skills in two years’ time, only 13 per cent of employers have so far signed up to the employer skills pledge.
The good news is that over half are considering or would consider signing up to the skills pledge or the Train to Gain initiative. The survey also shows that many employers are actively involved in learning and development activities and that the average training budget per employee is £300 a year.
