The NatWest everywoman awards were set up six years ago to celebrate the achievements of British business women. This year’s competition will be launched at the House of Commons on 1st May.
There are several categories within the competition including a special award for use of technical innovation in business and a special Spirit of everywoman award which is presented to the woman who has changed the landscape for women in business. Last year’s winner of this award was Dame Stella Rimington, the first female director general of MI5.
Women play an important part in the economy according to the government’s recent Enterprise Strategy, but although over half the adult population of the UK is female only 27 per cent of women are self-employed. The government says that inspirational role models are essential to boosting the number of female entrepreneurs.
