The Manufacturing Institute’s Make It in Manufacturing Enterprising Challenge is designed to give school children an insight into the world of manufacturing, showing that it can offer exciting and challenging careers and dispelling the idea that it leads to dead-end, low-paid jobs.
Students from across the north took part in the competition which was sponsored by Robert Wiseman Dairies. The challenge involved setting up a dairy company, designing, packaging and marketing a dairy product and building an environmentally friendly vehicle in which to transport it.
The children had to come up with imaginative and creative solutions, which were then pitched, Dragon's Den style, to a panel of judges.
The winners, students from Bishop Rastorne Language College at Preston, beat off competition from 48 other schools in the North West to collect the winner’s trophy, plus a day out of their choice.
