The government is set to give the green light to hundreds more training providers to prepare young people for the world of work by offering Diplomas. The Diploma is a new qualification which is designed to give students the skills needed to meet employer needs.
Schools Minister, Jim Knight revealed that from 2009 a further 317 groups of schools, colleges and training providers will be able to offer the qualification. The range of subjects will include Environmental and Land-based Studies and Business, Administration and Finance.
Schools and colleges that successfully applied to teach the new Diplomas had to demonstrate an ability to work with employers and universities to provide high quality courses.
Government support to the tune of an additional £27 million will be made available to schools and colleges and teachers of the new qualification will benefit from a professional development programme.
