Police officers from across the country will undertake performance training in a bid to bump up crime detection rates.
The training programme, which has the full support of Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith will teach frontline officers to manage their time and speed up procedures which in turn will allow them to offer the public a better service.
Wishing the Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and Sussex officers luck as they embarked on the training at QUEST Academy in Oxford, Smith said: “It’s great to see frontline staff being encouraged to solve problems using their personal experiences and to see managers empowered to work creatively with their teams to improve performance and the service to the public.”
Tangible results have been measured in police forces where officers have received the training. In Avon and Somerset alone arrests are made 70 per cent faster and there has been a 10 per cent improvement in detection of some crimes.
Smith said: “I have been impressed by what officers in Avon & Somerset, Cheshire, Lancashire and Thames Valley have achieved following the last programme. Today sees the start of similar work in four more forces and I hope overall it will stimulate thinking and improvement more widely in policing in England and Wales.”
