Adult learning sector experts say the government has ‘got it wrong’ and is calling for attention to be paid to a more rounded approach to learning.
Since 2005 nearly one and a half million state-funded adult learning places have been lost. The authors of a newly published collection of essays, Not Just the Economy, emphasise the high public value of adult education.
Co-author, Colin Flint OBE said: “The government is making a determined effort to address the nation’ skills shortages, but it has got this wrong. We need an educated, critical, tolerant citizenry. It’s not just the economy.”
