London mayor Ken Livingston has launched a £5m initiative to support voluntary and community groups helping teenagers back into education, training and skills.
The Young Londoners Fund, part of the £79m London Youth Offer which aims to provide opportunities for teenagers to gain new skills and raise their aspirations, is further boosted by a £4m investment by the Metropolitan Police Service as part of its strategy to tackle serious youth violence and prevent crime and anti-social behaviour.
Livingston said: “We are putting in a once-in-a-generation investment to give children and teenagers in London the chance to get involved in sport, music and skills training activities and the chance to share in capital's success."
Seventy three million pounds is already being spent throughout London’s boroughs to provide activities and safe places for young people outside school hours.
